About the Contest

The Jimmy Fund Big Ideas Contest first launched in 2013, producing more than 150 innovative fundraising ideas. Several of those Big Ideas are in action today, raising money for cutting-edge cancer research and compassionate patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

In 2015, the Jimmy Fund ran the contest for a second time and received a record 209 Big Ideas from 19 states across the country. On June 10, the Surprenant family from Needham, Mass. was crowned the 2015 winner for their Big Idea, "Jimmy Fund Jokers: Laughter is the Best Medicine," and they won a fabulous grand prize package.

WHAT IS A “BIG IDEA”?

It's simple: a Big Idea is a new fundraiser for the Jimmy Fund. It can be an event, an app, a product, or viral campaign—just so long as it:

  • Has the ability to raise $100,000+
  • Engages thousands of dedicated and new supporters of the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber
  • Considers all logistics—costs, planning, marketing, and volunteers
  • Can be replicated annually
